{mexican sugar molds}

I love the rustic + eco-friendly vibe of old Mexican sugar molds. Mexican moldes de azucar or sugar molds, have been used for centuries throughout Mexico and Latin American to create cones of cane sugar. Sugar cane was pressed in the molds to remove the sweet pulp inside which was then heated, rendering a flowable liquid that was poured into the molds and allowed to cool. Solid cones would form that could be easily stored for future use. Sugar molds today make wonderful accent pieces for tables, mantels or counters. Find yours online here at Direct from Mexico or check local flea markets and antique stores.
